Dear Visitor!

Welcome to the recently redesigned website of the Public Foundation for Tourism, an organisation operated by the town of Győr, Town with County Rights.

Together with my colleagues, as well as with the experts from the Cabinet Office of the Mayor’s Office, and the Committee for Economy and Tourism of the town’s General Assembly, we are all working towards the same goal: to make sure that if you visit us as a tourist, you will come to like this town (which is perhaps the most dinamically developing town in all of Hungary), and you will be able to absorb as much as possible from the historical and artistic treasures of this area.

We hope that when you arrive in our town as a tourist, you will be able to use the information points and landmarks indicated on our website, as well as the direct assistance of our Tourinform Office, to find all of those historical monuments and memorial places, cultural events, hotels, and cool riverside parks, which may ensure that you have a thoroughly relaxing, both spiritually and physically refreshing stay in Győr.

The administrative area of Győr, Town with County Rights, is extremely rich in natural rivers and medicinal waters, riverside recreational grounds, and parks; however, we hope that when you visit us, you will also become familiar with the wider surroundings of Győr, and the beauties of the natural ring of ecological areas which hold our town in their embrace. These include the gentle slopes of the Sokoróalja hill region, the ecclesiastical treasures of Pannonhalma, the rich folk traditions of the Rábaköz region, as well as the “fishermen’s inns” in the Szigetköz area, by the River Danube, with their unique atmosphere. With our maps and brochures of tourist attractions and hiking routes, which are being continuously updated, we hope to help you reach these great sites easily from Győr (and then return to Győr just as easily), and have a really nice time throughout all your excursions.

Capturing and maintaining the interest of tourists requires professional efforts which are ever capable of finding new ways and methods. Only recently, as part of the tourism development programme of the town of Győr, we launched a project to prepare the “Győr EcoCity” Programme, hoping very much that some of the resources which will shortly be made available through the Second National Development Plan will be put at our disposal. We think that the term “EcoCity” describes a town where the attitude of people towards nature is based on environmental awareness, where natural values are being protected, and where the extent and proportion of green areas which are suitable for recreation and hiking are continuously increased. We have realized that people who get out of their twenty-first century metropolitan surroundings when they go on holidays have an increasing demand for feeling close to nature, but at the same time, even while they are on nature hikes, they do not like to fully relinquish the highly developed infrastructural comforts that large towns can provide, and the feeling of security that these can evoke. Thus, tourists of the 21st century tend to expect the town where they will spend their holidays to have well-ordered community spaces and inhabitants who not only protect their environment but are also able to revitalise the ecological systems around them.

Therefore, we are bound by the motto, “Me, You, Győr - One City for All!” to adjust our offers for tourists to the demands of our visitors. This also means that we welcome any comments or suggestions you may have, so that we can offer an even wider range of attractions for the tourists who visit our town.
